Alice Medrich A Year in Chocolate
Warner Books asked Morla Design to design Alice Medrich’s 132 page book, A Year In Chocolate. We created a clean design that stands apart from the traditional chocolate brown covers crowding the dessert category. The book is divided by seasons with the cover design incorporating a sequence of four seasonal, recipe photographs. Chapter dividers continue the look of the front cover and the recipe photography is shot full bleed, with corresponding text and quotes on facing pages.Alice Medrich Desserts Cookbook Design
Alice Medrich, the celebrated dessert chef, and Artisan Press, the preeminent cookbook publisher, asked Morla Design to concept and design a cookbook targeted to those who are intimidated by baking. In order to appeal to novice bakers, we started with creating a light hearted, descriptive title: “Sinfully Easy Delicious Desserts” and applied that copy approach to chapter headings. We suggested and implemented a “Good to Know” and “Tips” column adjacent to the recipes to further assist first time bakers. The companion book, “Chewy, Gooey, Crispy, Crunchy, Cookies” book was one of the top ten 2010 cookbooks chosen by the New York Times and was a finalist for the IACP award, the industry’s most coveted acknowledgment of excellence in cookbook writing and design.
